These are pretty but I ordered two for nightstands, and the bows are stitched on at different heights which makes them look off. The ribbon is attached poorly and sags in different ways. The mirror base is pretty and is fine. Bottom line, it looks really amazing on the website, and the shades are put together cheaply and irregularly, not consistant with each other if you are ordering two. Hopefully they will get the manufacturer to fix this issue because they are a very nice design.
No, I do not recommend this product.

Can the bow be removed or is it attached to the shade?

The bow is attached with stitches. You could remove it but your shade would have holes. The bows are attached cheaply and if you order two they will most likely not be at consistent heights. One of the lamps I ordered has a bow three inches lower than the other. This is probably a result of a factory line of people sticking them on cheaply and quickly.
