This is an incredible lamp for the price. The description doesn't do it justice. The base is a flattened oval or ellipse, 12" across and 5" deep at the thickest. It comes to a point on both sides, so looking sideways it has a V-shape.
The large part of the base has a crackled MIRROR finish. Only the very bottom and top parts of the base are a non-reflective silver color. The metal is heavy and very sturdy.
The shade is oval 16" wide x 9"deep and does have a slight shimmer.
I've paid a lot more for lamps that aren't nearly as interesting nor well-made as this one...a little glam, a little over-the-top but could fit a variety of styles.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Walked into the store and gravitated right to this lamp, even though I wasn't looking to buy a lamp!
Using in guest bedroom that has chocolate ceiling and metallic gold walls.
Fabulous accent light, sturdy and seems well made. The abaca bindings give a nice textural effect, set off by the smooth shades. Especially lovely with lights on - may use CFLs and keep the lamp on a lot.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Is the lamp base oval shape or is it round?
Just wrote a review on this lamp but don't know when it will be published so I'll try to do a quick reply. The base is a flattened oval that comes to a point on each side. So from the side it's a V-shape that curves out to the center. At the center, it's thickest part, it's 5" deep.
