Have 13 ft ceilings, almond colored walls and dark hardwood floors. Hung this over the mantle which is dark wood as well. Pulled the room together and draws attention to the beautiful ceilings. I have had many compliments! What a bargain that does so much for a room!

The description says it is hung vertically, can I hang this horizontal?

Yes, you could hang it horizontally. Just check to see if you like the design as well. I wouldn't think it would make a difference. It just depends on what you like.
