Opening the Styrofoam packing required us to tear the box beyond repair so returning this lamp was impossible. After the plastic ring holding the shade broke, we were stuck with this poorly constructed lamp. Would not recommend this lamp. Very disappointed.
No, I do not recommend this product.

What is the width of the shade? Is there an on/off switch on the top or is it just a foot switch?

About 14.5 " wide. On/off switch at the top, no foot switch.
